Character History:
I don't know why I just told you that again.”
When we're first introduced to Kira, she's sitting at the back of her Junior history class, being mortally embarrassed by her father, who just so happens to be the new history teacher at Beacon Hills High School. Yeah. He introduces himself, explaining that they moved from New York to California about three weeks ago, then goes on to introduce her by saying that because she hasn't brought home any friends or even talked about anyone from school, she obviously hasn't done so herself just yet. We see right off the bat that Kira's very shy, but she must have a pretty solid relationship with her dad, because she doesn't get mad at him for calling her out in the middle of class like that. She just peeks up and waves from her seat at the back of the room, then proceeds to burrow her face in her arms again. But not before sharing a really cute "why hello there" glance with Scott McCall. Who is really, really cute. Possibly the cutest boy ever, it's obvious she's trying to figure that out in that exact moment.
Later on, while Scott, Stiles, Lydia, Allison and Isaac are all talking loudly about hallucinations and the crazyscaryweird things they've all been experiencing, Kira just- walks right on up and tells them she thinks she knows what they're talking about. She goes on to explain that it sounds like something related to the Buddhist concept of Bardo, which is the state between life and death. Despite the dark nature of the topic, Kira seems pretty enthusiastic to talk about it, and it's probably just because she's glad to have something to contribute to their conversation. Making friends, yay! Also Scott remembered her name, which is awesome. So awesome. But anyway, in all her enthusiasm, she doesn't pick up that the group was talking about something they were experiencing themselves, so she's pretty nonchalant about saying oh yeah, when one is experiencing Bardo, it almost always results in death. So cool, right?! ( No, not cool, Kira. )
The next day, she even has printed out information on Bardo, a small stack of papers she's really excited to give to Scott. As soon as the bell rings for class, she stops him, reaching into her bag as she explains that she did more research on the subject and printed it out for him to read over too ( aw, no, she didn't have to do that ), and that it only took a few hours to find the information ( no really, she didn't have to do that ) so really, it's not big deal! She comes up empty-handed, but it turned out she left the printed info at home, because in walks her father again, tapping her on the shoulder and telling her that she forgot the research she printed for "that boy you like". Again, Kira looks like she would like the ground to swallow her up whole just so she doesn't have to turn back around and face the embarrassment of looking at Scott after her dad called her out again, but Scott actually seems pretty pleased.
During class, Mr. Yukimura calls on Stiles to read in front of the class, but he ends up- freaking out. Scott helps him out of the room, but when they don't return before the bell rings, Kira grabs their backpacks and books for them, wanting to make sure they don't get left behind. Only before she finds them, she's found first by a freaking coyote. In the school! What the hell! The coyote comes after her so she books it, somehow finding her way into the locker room, where the coyote has her cornered. Luckily, Scott finds them, and scares the coyote off. After that, he notices a creepy doll in Stiles' backpack, which is why the coyote was going after her. Weird, right? ( The coyote was actually a werecoyote, which Scott knew but Kira didn't, and the doll belonged to her. It's still weird, but that's the explanation. One that Kira doesn't get just yet. ) After all that, Kira ends up having lunch with her dad in his classroom instead of the lunchroom, obviously a little freaked out by what happened, but otherwise unshaken. Her dad makes another joke about her making friends, and she takes it in stride.
"Well, then you'd be dead"
"Exactly."
The next time we see Kira, besides a quick moment in the hall where Scott notices her at her locker, is again eating lunch with her father. This time he asks why she's not out making friends in the cafeteria, and she tells him it's because, for whatever reason, whenever she tries talking to the kids here, she ends up "rambling like an idiot". When the two share a joke that the only thing to show any interest in her is a wild coyote, he says that she could date the coyote, and she goes on to explain that she's not ready to date, she just wants to make some friends first. Meanwhile, Scott was listening just outside the door the whole time. Woops.
Later that day, the school is put on lockdown when it becomes known that an escaped convict - William Barrow, who is responsible for the death of a number of students by bombing a school bus, explaining that he had to because they had "glowing eyes" - is on the loose. Little do the police know ( despite Stiles warning his dad, the sheriff ), Barrow is actually in the school, looking for someone specific. So Stiles pulls the fire alarm to empty out the school, only Kira is in the library with her earbuds in, and doesn't leave until a while later when Coach Finstock finds her sitting there. Again, wooooops. Meanwhile, Barrow is lurking behind a bookshelf, watching her. Freaking creep.
But! Luckily, she gets home just fine, only to find out her dad's invited Scott over for dinner, for "what he likes to call a Thank You for Saving My Daughter from Becoming a Coyote Dinner" dinner. Sure enough, as if on cue, Scott rings the doorbell, and Kira rushes off to get changed into something nice. But only after mumbling oh, god and making an adorably nervous sound under her breath. Oh the woes of having preceptive parents. That happen to work at your school. Anyway, dinner starts off a little awkward, only because Noshiko ( Kira's mother ) starts it all off by saying that Scott, being a native Californian, must have eaten a lot of really great sushi before, but says that Kira's dad is a great chef. It's only after Mr. Yukimura names all the sushi on the dish that Scott finally admits to never eating sushi before, and Kira turns on her teenage daughter charm by getting saying guys, we were supposed to be having lasagna tonight. And, adorable, her dad explains that he just wanted to impress Scott, but he'll go make lasagna. Scott tells him he couldn't ask him to do that, and after some cute fumbling around with chopsticks, they get to eating dinner. The conversation is mostly about Kira's parents, their heritage, until Scott eats his wasabi, thinking it was guacamole. Meanwhile! During all of that adorable bonding, Stiles and Lydia head back to the school to look for clues about who Barrow was coming after, and find Kira's name written on the blackboard using atomic numbers from the periodic table as a code. So! That's horrifying. When they cut back to Kira and Scott, they're eating pizza and being adorable and flirty while they do it. It's great. When she walks him out of her house, she tells him she thinks he's a really great guy, and not just because he saved her from the coyote, but because he remembered her name. Which was a really sweet moment, just because it does show Kira's insecure side, without making this big overwhelming thing. But then, Barrow runs up behind Scott and knocks him out with a crowbar, before kidnapping Kira. Ruh roh.
Stiles, Lydia, and Scott figure out quickly enough ( using Lydia's banshee powers ) that he took Kira to a power plant where he used to work, where they find her chained up to a fence in the facility. Barrow creepily takes photographs of her using her own phone, says he "needs proof" for all those people who never believed. Kira's freaked, that's obvious, but she does manage to keep her cool better than most people might, riiiight up until Scott runs in, as Barrow is holding a live wire, one that's sparking with heavy electricity. One that he uses to shock Scott, knocking him on the ground. But when he turns the wire on Kira, the entire room lights up with electricity, sparks flying until it's revealed that Kira is absorbing all of it, until there's nothing but darkness in the room. She looks shocked to.. not be dead, but she's not scared, even if there is some confusion in her expression once she looks back over at Scott. The shortage at the power plant ends up knocking the power out of the entire city. One that forces the town to instate a curfew until it can be fixed. It's pretty intense!
Later, Scott, Stiles, Lydia, and Kira are all at the sheriff's station, answering questions about what exactly happened at the power plant, and how they figured out that he would take her there. After a lot of talking in circles ( thanks, Stiles ), McCall ( oh yeah, Scott's dad is the jerk that's questioning them. he's a jerk. a big jerky jerk ) finally tells them they can all go home, but only after telling Kira he needs to keep her phone, as it's evidence.
Which is bad, like, really bad, because later on Kira takes a picture of herself in the mirror, with the flash on, and the result isn't just a normal selfie, but a picture of herself that looks like she's surrounded by a glowy, flamey aura. She's pretty freaked out by it, having no idea what it means. All she knows for sure is that she has to get her phone back before anybody sees the pictures that Barrow took of her. Later on at school ( which is still on, even though the power is still out ), when Scott finds her eating lunch out in the hallway, she immediately tells him she doesn't want to talk about what happened with Barrow, but she does tell him to snap a picture of her on his phone, which makes him see why she asked for the phone, and he agrees to help her get it back from the police station.
That night, Stiles helps Kira and Scott sneak into the sheriff's station, giving them keycards and everything, but before they go in, Kira asks Scott if he told Stiles why they needed the phone back. To which he told her no, not technically. He told his best friend that there were pictures that Kira didn't want anyone to see, but when Kira asks "what kind of pictures?" Scott tells her "..naked ones." She takes that in stride to, nodding and smiling before saying "good idea!" Which says a lot about her, mostly in that she's pretty easy going with anybody she's getting to know, not just her parents. She also realizes there are worse things than Stiles thinking she has naked pictures on her phone, okay. Bigger things to focus on here. Like getting her phone back! And they actually do manage to sneak into the evidence room and delete the photos from the phone, even if Stiles had to step in and distract Agent McCall from discovering them by bringing up facts about the case about Barrow that McCall already knew. It was a close call! But they all get out without getting in trouble.
I've never done anything like that before, have you?”
Instead of driving her home, Scott asks Kira if she wants to go to a party, and she happily agrees. Yay! Normal funtime things with friends! She also seems pretty amped about breaking into the police station in general, which is cute and pretty telling. Kira might try to keep her head down and follow the rules, but she's totally got a rebellious streak in her as well. When they get there ( there being Derek's loft, where the party is being held without him knowing ), the party is in full swing, and Scott and Kira get grab hands just so they don't lose track of each other at the party. Of course, they don't anticipate Allison seeing them right away, and after a brief awkward moment of recognition ( one that Kira feels she's not really... a part of, which is clear when she slips her hand from his ), Kira gets swept up in the party crowd, and Scott uses his wolf vision of awesomeness to find her. Only, when he does that, he sees that fiery aura around her. A little while later they share a moment on the roof of the loft, one where she "moms" him by using her thumb to wipe away some glow paint he got on his cheek, and they discuss her aura. She thinks it makes her look like a "demon from hell", but Scott insists he looks like it's keeping her safe, like armor. That it looks like a fox.
Their moment is interrupted though, when five demon warriors in all black show up at the party. The same demons that attacked Lydia, Ethan, and Isaac over the last day or so, branding them with a backwards number five just behind their ears. A fight ensues, which is when Kira finally sees Scott's wolf form ( as well as everybody else's ). She seems shocked, but not afraid. The warriors are about to turn on Scott, but they disappear when the sun comes up. We next see Kira when Scott is giving her a ride home on his motorbike, but before she gets into her house, she asks him to show her his werewolf face again. She's fascinated, more than anything, even smiles a little bit. So it's clear she's accepting of all this supernatural stuff, even if her own aura scares and confuses her a bit.
Later that day, Scott invites Kira over, and she figures out pretty quickly that it's because he's afraid the demon warriors ( which are actually called Oni ) are going to try and attack her, and his house is supernaturally fortified thanks to Dr. Deaton. It's at his house that she brings up the myth of the kitsune, which is a supernatural fox spirit, one that can control something called foxfire, which she thinks might be why she could absorb all that electricity in the plant. When she tries to tell Scott that she needs to get home for dinner, he tells her to tell them she's going out on a date and won't be home, to which she replies that it might be a bad idea for them to date, seeing as foxes and wolves never really get along, showing him a picture in her mythology book of a fox surrounded by wolves. He ignores the picture and tells her it's just a picture book, and they almost kiss-
But then they're interrupted by a car pulling into the driveway. D'oh! Scott thinks it's his mom, but it ends up being his dad, who calls him and Kira out on breaking into the police station. Woooops. Scott stands his ground long enough, not giving him any answers or explanations, until his mom finally comes home, around sunset. Which, incidentally, is when one of the Oni shows up in Scott's house and promptly stabs him with his sword. Ow. Luckily, Derek shows up and helps fight off the Oni just enough to get them outside the house again, which is when Scott's mom pours Mountain Ash ( a supernatural powder that keeps dark creatures out ) across the doorway, creating a barrier over the door and protecting the house from any of them getting in. Kira, curious, reaches out and touches the barrier, which sparks and responds to her, proving that she, too, is supernatural.
Aiden, obviously freaked out by the Oni, starts to question Kira about what she is, holding her hand to the barrier again just to prove that she's obviously not human, and he thinks that the Oni are after her so they should just hand her over to them. But Derek speaks up, saying she's obviously a kitsune, because he can see the same aura that shows up in pictures and when Scott uses his alpha vision. He says she must be a new kitsune, since she hasn't learned to hide that aura yet. Kira then goes on to say that maybe Aiden is right, maybe they are after her, because kitsune are tricksters, so maybe she really is a 'dark' spirit. Scott argues though, saying he's met evil people before and she's not one of them. At which time, Allison calls Scott and tells him all the info that she's learned about the Oni, saying they're only looking for people who are possessed by a dark spirit, which makes him realize that they shouldn't fight the Oni. They'll leave once they realize that none of them are possessed by anything evil. So Kira and Scott walk right up to the Oni, who then look into their eyes all creepy and dark before branding them with that same little backwards five, and letting them drop.
That night, Kira's on her bed reading, when her lightbulb busts. Which isn't extraordinary, only after she calls for her mom asking for a new bulb, she reaches out to unscrew the dead one, only for the bulb to light again with just her touch. At first she's startled by it, and she tugs her hand away, but then she reaches out again, lighting up the bulb until it surges and explodes. Her mother gets upset with her when she sees that the bulb is shattered, but then Kira notices that the replacement lightbulb lights up just the same as the only one did for her, as her mother screws it into the lamp. Hmm!
However, her newfound ability is the last thing on her mind when she finds out that Stiles has gone missing, and while everyone is out doing their best trying to find him, Derek asks her to show him where she was brought when she was kidnapped, and to tell him everything that happened. Which seems unrelated, but really, one of the werewolf twins brought up to Derek that he thinks Stiles might be the dark spirit - or nogitsune - that the Oni are looking for. So, he goes to Kira hoping to figure out if there's any truth to that. It turns out that the attack on Kira wasn't an attempt to take her life, but to generate enough power to jumpstart the nogitsune's power, and help it possess Stiles. They rush to the hospital, though Kira stays outside in the parking lot, insisting that it's probably not a good idea she's there when Derek tells Scott that she's partly responsible for Stiles being possessed by an evil demon.
Which turns out to be a good idea, because while Stiles was in the hospital getting tests done to see about all of his terrible sleepwalking and nightmares, the nogitsune takes over, and surges the power in the entire hospital, sending the electricity into a frenzy. Outside, one of the powerlines snaps, and heads straight for Kira.
Which is when shit gets SO real. She panics for a second, unsure of what to do, especially once an ambulance crashes into a fire hydrant, spilling water through a large part of the parking lot. The power line whips dangerously close to the water, electrifying it, and it shocks both the ambulance driver and Isaac before she finally takes action, beyond yelling to everyone to look out and keep back. She runs at an incoming car, backflipping off of it ( who knows why, but it sure looked cool ), and landing in the middle of that electrified puddle. She grabs for the wire, covering the frayed end with her hand so she can absorb the electricity. Her eyes glow bright orange with the use of her abilities, and she looks up just in time to see Scott and Derek watching her do all of this. They're not the only ones though, because her mother watched all of this happen, and she immediately pulls her away from the crowds of people, saying that if she saw what she did, who knows who else saw it.
The episode comes back "two days later", with Stiles missing, Isaac still in the hospital, and Kira has new information on the kitsune and nogitsune. She explains to Scott that they're both tricksters, but the nogitsune react really badly to threats or anything that might offend it, so there's really no telling where Stiles is, or what he might do, now that he's been possessed by the spirit. All they know is that he's the one that's responsible for the power freaking out at the hospital, and that he's probably planning more destruction, so they have to find them. Kira, despite only just meeting all of these people, is determined to help them figure this out, even though her mother wants her to stay out of it. She knows she can help, especially with her new abilities, and she refuses to back down. She's unwaveringly optimistic, much like Scott, and the way she dives headfirst into all of this really intimidating, scary stuff, shows that.
Luckily ( or not, but shh ), Stiles shows up in the basement of the school, and is seemingly back to himself. He shows them the blueprints and plans and weapons that he must have written up and collected while he was still possessed, explaining that he's sure the nogitsune planned for another attack here at the school. Judging by a map of the school campus, they figure out that the next attack is going to be on the track team, seeing as there are marked off places along the team's known route. So they go out to stop the track team from running, which is really only relevant to Kira because we get a chance to see her supernatural speed in action, right before Scott and Stiles yell at the team to stop running. While nobody on the team gets hurt, they do trigger a trap set up, which results in Coach getting shot in the chest with an arrow. Wwwwwooooops. At least Scott's there to take his pain.
Later, after Kira discreetly follows her father into the school despite the fact that there's been a bus bomb threat, where she snoops on her parents talking in her dad's classroom. It's revealed there that her mother has nine "tails", or small dagger-like blades, that she's been using to summon the Oni. Ohyeah. Those are her mother's henchmen. Her father tells Noshika that she has to tell Kira the truth, about the tails, their history, their abilities. But she snaps two more tails, explaining that she needs to do this first, to protect the town. That these Oni will be stronger, and will be able to stop the nogitsune. Who just... happens to also be Scott's best friend. Ruh oh.
As quickly as she can, she finds Scott to tell him what she saw, and they decide to bring Stiles to Deaton's pet clinic, which is fortified the same as Scott's house was. They decide they'll stay there until the sun comes up, to protect Stiles. Kira's willing to do whatever she can to help Stiles ( well, to help Scott help Stiles ), despite only knowing them for a short period of time. Her loyalty to her friends is shown in this way, considering she could have just trusted her mother's judgment and let the Oni take care of Stiles/the Nogitsune in whatever way they do. But instead she decided to stand up for what she believed was the right thing to do, and left with Scott to the clinit. Only the Oni get there before they do, and Kira and Scott are forced to fight off the Oni unarmed, while Stiles runs inside so they can't get to him.
This is where Kira's new fighting abilities come into play, because it comes to her almost effortlessly, and in a way that visibly shocks ( ha ha punny ) her as she does it. She acts on instinct and muscle memory, and she and Scott manage to kick some serious Oni butt. Right up until Scott gets run through with a sword, which is when Stiles pops back outside, telling Scott and Kira to get into the building. Kira's just about to help Scott pull the sword out of his gut when Stiles grabs her by the wrist, roughly, and throws her head down into the exam table that Scott is leaning on. Owie. Kira's out for the count for all the mildly homoerotic torture that Stiles ensues on Scott, but it ends with Stiles ( who's actually been possessed this whole time, gasp! ) telling Scott to never trust a fox, because they'll fool everybody. To which Deaton ( who enters right on time! ) replies "not everybody", and injects him with a kanima paralytic. Hooray! Thanks, Dr. Deaton.
And that's when she'll wake up in Wonderland.
Abilities/Special Powers:

thunder kitsune;;
foxfire; While we don't see Kira manipulate electricity beyond repairing her mother's katana, we do see a number of times that she can absorb and "control" huge, huge, huge amounts of electricity at a time. From blowing out a lightbulb in her bedroom, to easily absorbing, according to Stiles, 1.21 gigawatts of raw, sparking electricity when Barrow tries to kill her. ..1.21 gigawatts is just a movie reference, but, basically he meant a whole lot. We haven't been shown what she can do with all that stored energy just yet, but maybe it's what fuels the rest of her abilities.

fighting skills; Despite a lack of formal training, once Kira's powers start to manifest, she finds herself able to just do things, like flip off cars and run extraordinarily fast. It appears she has the same sort of endurance, stamina, strength, and speed as the werewolves in the canon do, and that it's all instinctual. Which... basically just means they're all advanced, compared to humans. She also learns how to use a katana almost effortlessly, even telling Scott that she's been picking it up a lot quicker than expected. Kira's mom later explained that the katana is her weapon, that it's a part of her, in a way. She also pretty instinctually knows how to fight hand-to-hand as well, which she only learned she could do once she was faced with a threat and had to fight the Oni to try and protect Stiles. It was pretty badass.

protective aura; ( healing ) As explained to her by her mother, Kira's never been sick, and she never will get sick, because the kitsune has healing abilities. While Kira is never injured badly enough to show this power, in a flashback we see Noshiko heal from multiple gunshot wounds, over a few hours time. When Scott is searching for Kira at the blacklight party, he uses his alpha eyes to try and tune his senses in a little clearer, and ends up scoping out Kira's aura, which looks like a fiery fox outlining her body. This image is also shown when Kira takes a picture of herself with the flash on, and while at first she thought he looked like a "demon from hell", Scott explains that he thinks it looks like something more positive, like protective armor.
